Tips and FAQ

Tips

  • You can customise or uninstall the radial menu in Tools->Extensions->RadialContext.
  • The fastest way to use the menu is to keep the right mouse button pressed, drag over the target item, and release the button.
  • By holding Ctrl, you can suppress the radial menu and access the normal one.
  • Holding Alt will activate a different behaviour for items marked with an A. You can also drag to the target item, keeping the mouse pressed, and left-click it to access the alt-funtionality.
  • For a fast way to browse a number of images, uncheck 'Select new tabs opened from links' in 'Tools->Options->Advanced'. You can then use the radial menu to load all images in different tabs and browse them by closing the tabs.
  • With some basic knowledge of JavaScript, you can change or extend the functionality of the menu by editing rcLayout.js .

Frequently asked questions

  • How do I uninstall the RadialContext menu?
You can uninstall it at: Tools->Extensions. If it isn't there you'll have installed a version intended for Firefox 0.8 to Fx 0.9. To access the options, which include an Uninstall button, you'll have to install the Show Old Extensions extension.
  • Is the extension open source?
Yes. The RadialContext menu is available under a BSD license. If you installed it, you already have the sources on your hard disk.
  • Can't the menu stay in place?
With menu menu following the mouse, you don't have to hit an item as in a normal menu. You can just drag to the appropriate direction. It is possible to do this blind and very fast. To close the menu, just click into the middle.
  • How about previewing submenus?
I've tried this at first. And the resulting display is just an unreadable, horrible mess.
  • Can't the parent menu stay visible?
I've tried this at first. And the resulting display is just an unreadable, horrible mess.
  • Could you add an item for the parent menu?
The space in the menu is very valuable, and re-opening the menu anew is as fast. Especially if you're making use of tip #2.
